Rakhi Celebrations 2013-14

On 19th August 2013, the members of Interact Club visited Mata Bhagwanti Chadha Niketan on the occasion of Rakhi. The entire trip, from the moment we stepped in to the moment we boarded the bus to back was enlightening and will be imprinted on our minds for the rest of our lives.
Upon visiting their workshops, we were overawed and baffled at the amazing handicrafts that the students had made over there. But more than the works of art, it was the way their eyes lit up upon seeing us enter that we'll remember. Their workmanship was far beyond what any of us ever comprehend. Every hand that was tied a Rakhi to was insistent in giving us a gift in return. No matter how much we persisted, they pressed them down in our hands, pleading politely as always. We got the same joyous reception in every class we entered. Every special child seemed reluctant to let go of our hands and kept on chattering to us about their everyday lives. We also played badminton with students - and lost fair and square! Then we met the feisty Chahat. who insisted on leading all of us through a singalong of a few of of her favorite songs. Pallavi too enthralled us with her voice and dance steps. They were all a joy to watch. Their delight at everyday things such as maybe saying their names properly or remembering the lyrics to their favorite songs made us appreciate the smaller gifts of life.
We had walked in as ordinary, everyday teenagers who did not give two hoots about what went on around them. We stepped out as sensible, compassionate and more grateful for what we generally took for granted in our lives. God gives us everything, sometimes we just need to pause and appreciate it.
